On Saturday 26 June, the whole of The Hague’s city centre will be given over to the theme of the Nederlandse Veteranendag (Dutch veteran day). This is a chance to pay homage to the efforts made by all Dutch veterans throughout the world and, for the first time this year, the event will close with a veteran concert in the Malieveld for a young audience and ‘young’ veterans.
Parachuting in the Hofvijver
In order to warm up the audience, on Friday 25 June at 13.00, ten parachutists will be touching down in the Hofvijver, right in front of the Minister-President tower. Don’t miss it! It is best to watch from the Korte and Lange Vijverberg.
Prince of Orange in attendance
On Saturday 26 June, the Veteran day will be officially opened in the Ridderzaal. There will then be a colourful parade of veterans and the military around the Hofvijver in The Hague and H.R.H. Prince Willem Alexander will take the salute from the parade on the Kneuterdijk. The procession will include field guns with horses, modern and old military material, musical orchestras and, of course, over four thousand marching veterans. Modern and historical planes will also fly over the Hofvijver during the parade.
Veteran’s concert
Everyone is welcome at the Malieveld all day. As well as being able to meet veterans and take part in sporting activities at the Malieveld, it will also be hosting a special Veteran’s concert. The first part of the Veteran's concert will start at 15.30 and will include Danny de Munk, Karin Bloemen, Tante Lien and Blue Diamond Riem de Wolff. At about 17.15, the musical festival will move to the large stage with the Volendam based 3 J’s and an amazing performance by Ilse DeLange and her band. At 18.45, DJ Isis will close the Dutch Veteran day 2010 with her multimedia show. A spectacular day with something for everyone – both veterans and the public at large!
Come to the Nederlandse Veteranendag, come to The Hague Festivals!
