Shopping & staying

The Hague has an unprecedented variety of shops. The shopping centre near the Spuistraat and Grote Marktstraat is busy seven days a week. And just a few minutes from this well-known area full of all the big brands, there is another, more surprising part of The Hague - trendy and original shops take precedence in the older, more atmospheric Hofkwartier. From hip to classical, from design to retro. The small side streets in the old centre are also home to lovely lunchrooms with courtyard gardens, chic boutiques, vintage shops and quirky fashion shops. The Denneweg is the place to go if you are looking for an amazing collection of antique furniture, clocks, paintings and decorative objects. Browse around the side streets and wander along the Hooikade. Here, along the internal canals, you can find stately, listed properties, terraces on the water’s edge and unexpected courtyards.

Shopping in De Haagsche Passage – incorporating the oldest shopping centre in the Netherlands, coming in at 115 year’s old – is an experience all by itself. The glass-covered Passage offers a variety of specialist shops, all exuding contemporary allure. The Passage’s beautiful architecture engenders an unmistakable atmosphere that is rarely found in modern shopping centres. In 2008, the Haagsche Passage even won the NRW Annual Prize 2008. This is an annual award presented by the Nederlandse  Raad van Winkelcentra (Dutch Shopping Centre Board) to the best shopping centre in the Netherlands.
